Before registering

What is the Certamen Horatianum?

The Certamen Horatianum is a classical language and culture competition dedicated to Quintus Horatius Flaccus, organized by the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore Statale «Flacco - Battaglini» of Venosa and open to Italian and foreign schools.

Who can register?

Registration is reserved to schools, not individual students. The school creates the account and, once its profile is complete, adds the participating students and any companions.

How many accounts should the school create?

Just one account per school. If the school has several branches (plessi), it registers only once for all of them: from that account, the school's contact person manages all participating students and companions.

Italian schools: which school code (codice meccanografico) should I enter?

The school code (codice meccanografico) is only for schools in Italy: schools in other countries do not enter it and the field is not required. Italian schools enter the code of their reference institute. You can also start typing the code of one of its branches: while you type, institutes from the Italian Ministry registry are suggested and choosing one fills in code, name and email. If you start from a branch code, the registration still applies to the whole institute. If the code is not among the suggestions you can type it by hand: a notice is shown, but registration is not blocked.

Which email should I use?

Use the institute's institutional email: it becomes the username and receives the verification link. For Italian schools we recommend the official email recorded in the Italian Ministry registry: if you use a different one, a notice is shown; you can still continue, but the Certamen office may contact the school to check it.

How registration works

What are the steps to follow?
  1. Register the school with the minimum data: country, school code (Italian schools only, with suggestions from the Ministry registry), name, institutional email and password.
  2. Verify the email address by clicking the link you receive.
  3. Log in for the first time and complete the school's data. For Italian schools, address, postcode, city and region are suggested from the Ministry registry: check and correct them if needed before saving. The telephone number is always entered by hand.
  4. Add the participating students: personal data, high school type, identification document, any allergies or intolerances, consent to data processing, and the signed consent-form attachment.
  5. Add any companions.
  6. Fill in the logistics data: shuttle service, registration fee, and payment receipt.
  7. All entered data can be edited until the deadline set for the current edition.

Deadlines

Registration is open until 31 March 2027.

Entered data can be edited until 31 March 2027.

Required documents

What document must the student bring on the day of the exam?

The student must present the identification document indicated during registration, on the morning of the exam.

What is the consent form that needs to be attached?

It is the "Studente Minorenne" (minor student) or "Studente Maggiorenne" (adult student) form, signed by the student, to be attached during registration: without this attachment the student's registration is not considered complete. The templates are available in the Forms & Information menu item.

Is a payment receipt required?

Yes, the receipt for the registration fee payment must be uploaded in the "Shuttle & Fee" section of the school profile.

What kind of files can I attach?

Only PDF, JPG, JPEG or PNG files (for example a scan or photo of the signed form, or the PDF of the receipt). The consent form of students and companions can be at most 4 MB, the payment receipt at most 5 MB. Word, Excel and other formats are not accepted.

Common issues

I did not receive the verification email, what do I do?

Check your spam folder too. If it still does not arrive after a few minutes, contact assistance using the details at the bottom of the page.

I forgot my password, how do I recover it?

Use the Forgot password? link on the login page.

I entered incorrect data for the school or a student, can I fix it?

Yes, you can edit the school's, students', and companions' data until the deadline set for the current edition. After the deadline, contact assistance.

I can no longer edit the data, why?

Editing data is only allowed until the deadline set for the current edition. Once it has passed, the data remains viewable but no longer editable.

Our institute is already registered: what happens if we try to register again?

Each institute can have only one registration per edition, even when starting from the code of another branch. If the institute is already registered, the registration page says so as soon as you choose it and does not let you continue. If instead the email address already has an account, the page still shows the confirmation message, but no new account is created: an email sent to the address you entered explains this. Ask your colleagues who registered, or contact assistance.

We took part in past editions: do we need to register again?

Yes: every edition requires a new registration with a new password. Data from past years is not copied over; when you enter the school code, however, the institute's up-to-date data from the Ministry registry is suggested.
